My New School in the USA

High School
I go to Foothill High School, and I’m in 11th grade — here that means I’m a Junior.
Let me tell you about my very first day, since everyone’s curious :)
The day before classes started, we went to school to make my schedule. Yes, I actually made it myself! You can choose almost any subjects you want, except for History, Math, and English — they’re mandatory. But you can choose the level :) So here’s what my original schedule looked like:
  1. History of the USA
  2. Yearbook (creating the school’s album for the year)
  3. CPE English 3
  4. Math 3
  5. Dance & PE
  6. Honor Earth Science (but I already sent a request to switch this one — it’s heavy on chemistry, biology, and math, which aren’t really my strongest areas).

1st Day

I woke up at 5:30 and started getting ready.
We left home at 7:15, and my host mom dropped me off at the bus stop. At 7:33, the yellow school bus (yep, just like in the movies!) picked me up.
When we arrived, everyone went to the main hall where we got our schedules and student numbers. On the way, I even met the school principal — we chatted, and he showed me where each class was, which helped a lot. My school is HUGE, so it’s super easy to get lost.
In class, we didn’t really do much yet since it was a short week — mostly just school rules, what supplies to buy for each subject, etc.
Breaks between classes are tiny, only about 5 minutes. The only real breaks are after 2nd period (10 minutes) and after 3rd (30 minutes for lunch). At lunch, we usually sit outside under a tree, eating and hanging out.
You can eat in the cafeteria, but the lunch line is always crazy long, plus it’s loud. I prefer my healthy snacks from home — bananas, grapes, water… basically living that fit life. In the cafeteria, they usually sell pizza or corn dogs for about $2–3.
After lunch, we go to Dance 💃. We quickly change and head to the small gym, where the class starts with stretching and ends with jogging, chatting, and just having fun. After that, it’s my last class of the day, and then I’m free 🎉
At the end of the day, I run to my favorite yellow bus, number 56, grab a window seat, and just stare outside at the views. The ride is about 15 minutes. Then my host mom picks me up from the stop, and we head home to eaaaat haha. That’s pretty much how every day goes — productive and fun. And yep, we always have the same subjects every day, which I actually find super convenient.
📚 In total, I have 6 subjects. Luckily, I managed to change my schedule, so now it looks like this:
  1. U.S. History (nothing to explain here haha)
  2. Drama (today was my first class — we did mini-skits)
  3. Choir (we sing and prepare for performances)
  4. Math
  5. Dance/PE (different dances, workouts, and on Fridays — Just Dance!)
  6. English (mostly literature — we analyze texts, write responses, and so on).

And now, it’s your turn — would you like to experience your first day at an American high school?
