American Food and School Lunches

American Food and School Lunches
For my first three days here, I had breakfast at school. A regular yogurt with berries? They completely transformed it… by adding an insane amount of sugar.
Sugar is literally everywhere. It feels like even the water is sweet. I’m not joking — in America, sugar is in everything. And Americans themselves admit it.

You’ve probably heard about how common it is for people in the US to be overweight. Well… it’s true. From what I’ve seen, more than half of the people here (at first glance) seem to have extra weight.

The main reasons? Food and a lack of physical activity.

Every day, I see teens who easily weigh over 100 kg eating chips, cookies, and candy — like, whole bags of it.

Honestly, it’s scary to me, because this is a habit passed down through generations. For many, this lifestyle feels totally normal.

Of course, it is possible to eat healthy here. But healthy food is much more expensive. And let’s be real — not everyone finds fruits and vegetables as tempting as crisps and candies.

As for physical activity — the distances between houses, stores, and pretty much everything are huge. Without a car, you can’t really get anywhere. Which means people spend the whole day driving instead of even taking a simple 15-minute walk.

But one thing I really respect here — nobody judges people based on their appearance. No discrimination, no insults. I think that’s a huge achievement.

So… how many calories do you think are in a regular American café meal? And would you want to try real American food?
