American School System

There’s so much I could say, but the most important thing is this: studying here feels so much better. No one yells at you, everyone is really kind and friendly. I honestly enjoy going to school.
The school system is completely different. I’m not sure if it’s the same everywhere, but at my school we have A-days and B-days. They alternate, which means on Monday I have one schedule, on Tuesday another, and then it repeats again.
Here are the classes I picked:

A-days:

1. Comparative Literature – We read books, write essays, and discuss them. It’s kind of a mix between English, history, and literature.
2. Life Management – A class about making good decisions. Basically, it’s like a life-skills course. We also learn how to recognize our unique qualities that can help us when writing college essays, resumes, or applying for jobs.
Lunch – It lasts about 50 minutes, which is sooo nice.
3. Advisory – Normally this is for talking with teachers about school-related stuff, but because of COVID it’s been pretty different. Right now, we don’t really do much—just hang out with friends in groups.
4. Spanish 2B – I actually want to move up to a higher level since this one feels too easy, but my teacher is just the best 😁
5. Play Production – My school has a drama club, and this class is all about coming up with ideas, working on sets, and helping with productions. Right now, we’re watching a performance of Shrek the Musical.

B-days:

1. Team Sports – Basically PE. We do warm-ups, then play volleyball and basketball.
2. Algebra 2B – I was placed in a pretty easy level. I might switch to a more advanced one, but I’ll give it another week before deciding.
Lunch
3. Advisory
4. Study Hall – Pretty much the same as advisory. I might switch it, but it’s actually nice to have a break where you can do homework, listen to music, or just relax.
5. U.S. History – Pretty self-explanatory. Honestly, it doesn’t seem like the easiest class, so I’ll need to work hard.
And that’s basically what every day looks like!

What about you? Would you like to study in a school like this? Try to imagine your own schedule in an American high school!
