🔺I’ve got a whole long story about how I learned English👅 But that’s not for this post🤗
Here I’ll just share some tips & resources.
Here I’ll just share some tips & resources.
🔺In the U.S. I’m surrounded by Americans, and literally no one speaks Russian🇷🇺 So like it or not—you will learn English🧐
🔺BUT here’s the catch:
If you don’t let the language into your head and make it a habit, you’ll never really get it😒
🔺My first month or two here, I actually resisted full immersion. I kept watching/reading only in Russian + stayed quiet🤦🏼♀️
Don’t repeat my mistakes👇🏻
TOP ways to learn English fast (and not boring):
- drop out of school,
- get a job, save money,
- move to the U.S.…
Oops wrong list — oh wait, that’s not it 😂 Let’s start again.
- WATCH movies/TV shows in English (obvious, I know). But it actually works👍🏼 If it’s too hard, watch with subtitles—but only in English!
- YOUTUBE!! And no, not boring “learning” videos🙅🏼♀️ Watch creators you actually enjoy. That way your ear gets used to real English👂🏼 (one day we’re training the tongue, the next—our ears, today I’m basically an ENT doctor🤷🏼♀️).
My fave: Casey Neistat.
- READ in English! Not just books—follow blogs on Insta🤗 and even Telegram channels (yes, they exist in English too, and there are sooo many😋).
- STUDY in English! Pick a subject you like (or something for homework) and go to quizlet.com. It’s literally every American student’s lifesaver. Flashcards are the best—you flip and memorize. Tons are ready-made, or you can create your own.
- DUMP the Russian-English dictionary (or Google Translate)! Use only an English-English dictionary, where words are explained in English (dictionary.com is great).
- But if you need help with weird slang or expressions, multitran.com is amazing.
- And my absolute favorite: postcrossing.com! It’s a website where you exchange postcards with people all over the world🌎 You get a random address, write them in English🤗, they write you back🤗—and everyone’s happy🤗
❗️Grab every single chance to talk to native speakers!
When it comes to languages—you can’t be shy.
Try it yourself—maybe one day you’ll be the exchange student writing posts like this!
